At the time, according to the newspaper, Epstein said he was not suicidal and accused his cellmate of attacking him. The financier ended up transferred and was found dead days later. Tartaglione said he found the note inside a book shortly after Epstein was transferred. The inmate is a former police officer and is serving a life sentence for murder. In interviews about the letter, according to the newspaper, Tartaglione said Epstein wrote that investigators looked into it for months but “found nothing.” According to Tartaglione, the note said: “What do you want me to do, for me to start crying? Time to say goodbye.” The prisoner stated that he gave the note to his lawyer, as a precaution in case Epstein accused him of assault again. The newspaper says that the note was sealed by a federal judge and is part of the criminal case against Tartaglione. The report states that the investigators who investigated Epstein’s death did not have access to the document. A spokesperson for the New York Court declined to comment on the document, according to the NYT. The Justice Department told the newspaper it is not aware of the letter.
