The shooter, 31-year-old Cole Allen, was restrained and arrested. A Secret Service agent was injured. The images were released by the Attorney General of the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, and show the moment in which Allen shoots an agent during the action. Before, he appears running through a metal detector. American authorities say the agent was shot at close range as the suspect ran through a security checkpoint. The agent retaliated with five shots. The suspect was not hit by the shots and ended up falling after injuring his knee. He was immobilized by other agents near the staircase leading to the room where the dinner was taking place. According to prosecutors, Allen tried to break into the event with the intention of assassinating Trump. The case has raised questions about how the Secret Service agent was shot, including the possibility of a shot by another agent. The US government denies this hypothesis. Asked this Thursday about the shooting, Trump said: “They said it wasn’t friendly fire. It wasn’t us.” The president also suggested that he will not wear a bulletproof vest at public events. “I don’t know if I could handle the idea of looking 10 kilos heavier,” he said. Allen is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and illegal transportation of weapons and ammunition across state lines. He has not yet pleaded guilty.
