According to the ministry, the activity seeks to strengthen cooperation, interoperability and joint work. Images released by the government show the president and Karina Milei with the US ambassador, Peter Lamelas, on board the vessel. The aircraft carrier is 333 meters long. “President Milei’s presence reminds us that we are in a new era of bilateral relations, moving beyond mere cooperation, towards a deep strategic alignment,” said the ambassador in a statement. The exercises are being carried out in Argentina’s exclusive economic zone during the passage of the USS Nimitz and the destroyer USS Gridley through the South Atlantic, according to presidential decree. The maneuvers are part of Passing Exercise (Passex) 2026, which takes advantage of the transit of foreign ships along the Argentine coast. The Milei government also authorized the entry of US equipment and military personnel into Argentine territory for the “Daga Atlântica” exercise, which began on April 21 and is scheduled to end on June 12.
