by Syndicated News

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina concluded the investigations into the death of the dog Orelha, which occurred in Florianópolis, and forwarded to the Court the request for provisional hospitalization of a teenager identified as the perpetrator of the crime. He will be charged with an infraction similar to the crime of animal abuse. In addition, three adults were indicted for coercing a witness during the investigation.

The case happened in the early hours of January 4th, on Praia Brava, in the north of the island. According to expert reports, the animal suffered a strong blow to the head, possibly caused by a kick or a rigid object, such as a piece of wood or a bottle. The day after the attack, Orelha was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic in the region, but he could not survive the severity of his injuries.

In his statement, the teenager denied direct involvement and stated that he remained in the swimming pool of the condominium where he was staying throughout the night. However, security camera images obtained by the police contradict this version. Records show he left the condominium around 5:25 a.m. and returned about 30 minutes later.

The investigations also gathered witness statements and other evidence that confirmed that the teenager was outside the condominium at the time of the crime. According to the Civil Police, the elements collected were decisive for the conclusion of the investigation and the request for provisional hospitalization.

After the attack, the teenager traveled outside the country. He was intercepted by authorities upon landing at the airport, on the 29th, wearing the same sweatshirt worn on the day of the crime, as identified in the security images. The case now goes to the Judiciary for analysis.
