The US Federal Aviation Administration said it is issuing a warning for airlines to take precautions when flying over Central America and parts of South America, citing the risks of potential military activity and GPS interference.
The agency said it had issued warnings to air travelers covering Mexico and other Central American countries, such as Ecuador, Colombia and parts of the airspace in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
The alert is valid for 60 days and comes amid increased tensions between the United States and regional leaders, after the Trump administration promoted a large military reinforcement in the southern Caribbean, attacked Venezuela and arrested Nicolás Maduro.
The American president raised the possibility of other military actions in the region, including against Colombia and Cuba.
