Given the rise in anti-Semitism here and around the world, we will always defend our Jewish community and combat hate.” New York’s left-wing mayor Zohran Mamdani, who has called Israel an “apartheid regime,” has been accused by some Jews of encouraging anti-Semitism with his politics. He denies these accusations. Anti-Semitic incidents increased 182% between January 2025 and January 2026, according to recent NYPD data. The city is home to the largest Jewish community outside of Israel. Mamdani pledged to “stand firm alongside our Jewish neighbors to eradicate the scourge of anti-Semitism from our city.” Some 82 percent of Jewish voters — including two-thirds who voted for Mamdani — expressed concern about “rising anti-Semitism in the city,” according to a new poll from the group Jewish Majority.
