There was an attempted coup against then president Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), in 2002; the oil workers’ strike in 2003; the referendum in which Chávez was defeated, in 2007; the illness and death of Hugo Chávez in 2013; the protests against Maduro in 2014 and 2017; the parliamentary elections won by the opposition in 2015; the opposition’s attempt to oust Maduro in 2019; and the 2024 presidential elections.
