The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Tottori and Shimane prefectures, located in the western region of the country. The earthquake occurred this Tuesday (6) at 10:18 am local time – 10:18 pm on Monday (5) in Brasília –, with the epicenter in the east of Shimane, 11 km deep.
In the most affected areas, the tremor reached an intensity greater than 6 on the Japanese scale, which ranges from 0 to 7.
The phenomenon was classified by the agency as a “long period ground movement”, characteristics that can make buildings oscillate with more intense effects on the upper floors.
According to the Reuters news agency, the risk of a tsunami was ruled out and no injuries were reported.
