Cole Allen, the suspect in the shooting at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, has officially been charged.
The 31-year-old man from Torrance, Calif, appeared in court on Monday (April 27) in Washington, D.C., for his arraignment where he was charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump as well as two federal gun charges, according to NBC News.

During his court appearance, Allen, a tutor, did not enter a plea at his arraignment.
Prosecutors said that Allen came to D.C. armed with several deadly weapons. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jocelyn Ballantine told the court that Allen was found to have a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun, a .38-caliber semiautomatic pistol and three knives.
Allen‘s court-appointed defense lawyer Tezira Abe told the court, “Mr. Allen has no prior arrests or convictions. He is presumed innocent at this time.”
Allen will remain in custody pending a hearing on Thursday, April 30 to determine if he’s eligible for any type of pretrial release. His preliminary hearing was set for May 11.
During an appearance on 60 Minutes following the shooting at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Trump weighed in on growing conspiracy theories that the incident was a staged.
