The recent shutdown in the United States came to an end this Tuesday (3) after a close vote in Congress, with 217 votes in favor and 214 against. The country had been in partial shutdown for three days, the second in six months. The measure had paralyzed federal services due to the failure to reach an agreement on the budget. The big point of conflict was the Defense Forces, which finance the Customs and Immigration Service (ICE), the target of harsh criticism for the recent death of two American citizens.
The expectation is that President Donald Trump will quickly sanction the financing bill, putting an end to the strike that began on Saturday (31). Trump and Republican leaders had pressured conservative party lawmakers to approve the project, to avoid a strike similar to the one that lasted 43 days between October and November 2025.
