Venezuela’s Supreme Court orders Delcy Rodríguez to assume the presidency

Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice on Saturday ordered Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to temporarily assume the powers of President Nicolás Maduro, arrested by the United States after bombing Caracas. The court decision determined that Rodríguez would assume “the position of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in order to guarantee administrative continuity and the integral defense of the Nation.” The decision added that the court will debate the issue in order to “determine the applicable legal framework to guarantee the continuity of the State, the administration of the government and the defense of sovereignty in the face of the forced absence of the President of the Republic”
