On January 1, 2026, in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Ram took a historic step forward in the brand’s off-road pickup lineup by unveiling the Power Wagon powered by the first Cummins turbodiesel engine.

The launch of the 2027 model was made possible through the short film “Resurrection,” announced by Tim Kuniskis, head of marketing and retail strategy, Ram’s U.S. brand, SRT Performance Division.

A key feature is the proven 6.7-liter Cummins HO engine, an inline 6-cylinder turbodiesel producing 430 horsepower and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, giving the Power Wagon the highest diesel torque in its class. Despite the new engine, Ram says this model remains the most capable of any full-size off-road pickup.

Cummins Engine in the Power Wagon: A Long-standing Customer Request

According to Kuniskis, equipping the Power Wagon with Cummins engines is in response to a long-time customer request. By combining the robustness of a diesel engine with the model’s extreme off-road capabilities, the goal is to improve range, towing capacity and trail and off-road performance.

The Cummins turbodiesel Power Wagon is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2026, with pricing starting at $88,470 including shipping.

Like the gasoline model, the diesel Power Wagon features underbody protection plates to protect the DEF tank, fuel tank, and transfer case. 20-inch matte black wheels are equipped with 34-inch all-terrain tires.

The model retains rigid axles with front and rear electronic differential locks, making it unique in this class. The axles are made by American Axle Manufacturing, with 9.25 inches at the front and 11.5 inches at the rear, a gear ratio of 3.42:1, and a 38mm reinforced rear drive shaft.

The front suspension uses three-link construction, Bilstein monotube shocks, and an electronically removable stabilizer bar for increased range of motion on the trail. The rear uses Bilstein parts for a 5-link coil spring suspension to improve ride comfort while maintaining load capacity. Rear air suspension with automatic leveling function is also available as an option.

Transmission and mileage improvements

To make the most of diesel torque, the 2027 Power Wagon adopts an 8-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic transmission and is paired with an axle ratio of 3.42. The front six gears focus on power and traction, and the last two gears improve fuel efficiency and quietness by lowering the revs when driving at high speeds.

A 31-gallon fuel tank provides a range of up to 600 miles. It is designed for long-distance overlanding and expeditions in areas with limited infrastructure.

Robust design and unique construction

The new Cummins-equipped Power Wagon is offered only in 4×4 double cab and 6-foot-4-inch box configurations. Off-road angles: 26.1° approach, 26.0° departure, 20.6° ramp, 13.2 inches of ground clearance. Includes Mopar rock rails as standard for cabin and chassis protection.

The exterior maintains the Power Wagon’s signature aggressive style, with a functional sports hood, wide fenders, box-specific graphics, matte black details, and a Cummins badge on the front fender. Options include extended LED lighting, RamBox cargo management system, and heated trailer mirrors with power adjustment and memory function.

With the introduction of Cummins engines, Ram expands its high-end model line and strengthens its strategy of offering highly specialized configurations that combine extreme off-road performance, heavy-duty capability and extended range.
