Trump announces creation of transitional government in Gaza

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday (15) that a transitional government has been formed in Gaza. There is still no information about the authorities that make up the administration. “As President of the Peace Council, I support a newly appointed technocratic Palestinian government, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, supported by the Council’s High Representative, to govern Gaza during its transition,” he said in a post on his social network Truth Social. The creation of the Peace Council for Gaza was also announced by Trump this Wednesday (14). According to the Republican, the members of the body will be announced soon. The American president also stated that the US, with the support of Egypt, Turkey and Qatar, is working to secure a demilitarization agreement with the terrorist group Hamas. “Hamas must IMMEDIATELY honor its commitments, including returning the last body to Israel, and proceed without delay to complete demilitarization. As I have said before, they can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he said. Phase 2 US announces 2nd phase of Trump’s plan for Gaza This Wednesday, the US special envoy for peace in the Gaza Strip, Steve Witkoff, announced the start of Phase Two of Trump’s 20-point plan to end the conflict in the region that already provided for the formation of the new government. “Phase Two establishes a transitional Palestinian technocratic administration in Gaza, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), and begins the full demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza, notably the disarmament of all unauthorized personnel,” Witkoff wrote. Furthermore, the new stage consists of: completely demilitarizing Gaza, starting reconstruction. The announcement was made in a social media post, in which Witkoff stated that the second phase marks the transition from the ceasefire to a new political and security arrangement. The plan calls for the disarmament of all personnel considered “unauthorized” in the Gaza Strip. Witkoff stated that failure to comply with obligations “will lead to serious consequences”, without detailing what measures could be adopted. “The US expects Hamas to fully comply with its obligations, including the immediate return of the last deceased hostage. Failure to do so will have serious consequences,” Witkoff said. In the publication, the envoy also highlighted the results of Phase One of the plan, which, according to him, “guaranteed the maintenance of the ceasefire, allowed the entry of large-scale humanitarian aid and resulted in the release of all surviving hostages.” Furthermore, the remains of 27 of the 28 dead hostages were reportedly returned.
