The interim dictator of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, responded this Monday (12) to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who posted an image claiming to be “interim president” of the Caribbean country.
“From here, we ratify and reaffirm the sovereignty and independence of Venezuela. I saw caricatures on Wikipedia about who is in charge of Venezuela. Here there is a government that is in charge of Venezuela,” said Rodríguez, without mentioning Trump, during a broadcast on state television VTV.
The chavista claimed that in Venezuela there is a president in charge and classified the dictator Nicolás Maduro, who was captured on January 3 with his wife, Cilia Flores, as a “hostage” during a US operation in Caracas.
“We advance in respectful international relations, within the scope of international legality, to claim and protect the rights of our beloved Venezuela,” he concluded.
Over the weekend, Trump posted on the Truth Social network an alleged clipping from the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, in which the article about him describes him as “interim president of Venezuela” since January 2026 and only later as the 45th and 47th president of the United States.
However, this is a montage – Trump’s Wikipedia article continues to describe him only as an American president.
After the operation in which Maduro was captured, Trump said that the United States will manage Venezuela until there is a transition of power in the country.
Afterwards, he stated that members of his administration, such as Secretaries of State, Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, will form a group to coordinate this transition and that Rodríguez is “cooperating”.
The Chavista stated last Tuesday (6) that “no external agent” is governing the Caribbean country, but the following day the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said that the United States will continue to “dictate” decisions of Venezuela’s interim regime.
