Brazil reached a historic milestone in grain production in 2025, with 346.1 million tons, according to data released this Thursday (15/1) by IBGE. It is the largest volume since the beginning of the historical series of the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production, in 1975.

Production recovered after falling in 2024, when climatic factors, especially in Rio Grande do Sul, reduced the harvest to 292.7 million tons. In comparison, 2023 production had been 316.4 million tons.

The growth is due to a combination of increased planted area and productivity gains. In 2025, the harvested area was 81.6 million hectares, 3.2% more than in 2024. Products such as soybeans, corn, cotton, rice and sorghum registered an expansion in the planted area, while beans and wheat saw a reduction.

Among the highlights are soybeans (166 million tons), corn (141.7 million) and cotton (9.9 million), which, according to IBGE, benefited from favorable weather conditions.

Regionally, the Central-West concentrated 51.6% of production, followed by the South (24.9%). Mato Grosso led among the states, with 32% of the total, followed by Paraná, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais, which together account for almost 80% of the harvest.

The third forecast for 2026 points to a slight reduction in production, estimated at 339.8 million tons, still the second largest in history.

Recent growth was also driven by the 2025/2026 Harvest Plan, announced by the Federal Government in July last year, with R$516.2 billion in resources for rural credit, sustainable production and agricultural infrastructure — the highest value in the program’s history.
