Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes will analyze the request from former president Jair Bolsonaro’s defense to reduce the sentence for reading. The lawyers’ request was made this Thursday (8). In practice, the program allows the deduction of four days of the sentence for each work read and evaluatedaccording to the rules of the prison system, and the prisoner can read and review up to 12 works per year. The request will still be analyzed by the minister.
Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison for attempted coup. For remission, he must have access to books authorized by the prison administration, produce reviews and reports on each work and have these readings evaluated by a competent committee.
In DF, the penitentiary system has a specific list of books that can be read and reviewed to reduce the sentence. Possibilities include:
- I’m Still Here, by Marcelo Rubens Paiva;
- “Decocia”, of Philip Filipinos;
- “Crime and Punishment”, by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
