“Orbiter” is one of the standouts of the deluxe edition, and is the last of the four new songs in the set.
The track was co-produced by Aaron Dessner.
The chorus of the song was actually teased years ago when Noah sang it on a stream as a part of the outro for the original version of “Pain is Cold Water.”
“I look exhausted / Oh, stiff and awkward on the outside of the moment / It’s not my first time bitter, drunk on a red carpet / Or my first time losing, and it won’t be my last,” he sings.
“This ain’t Watertown, I’m on alien ground / I’m a collеge kid with my windows down / I’m an astronaut, you’re the Moon / I starе at you, I sing to you / I circle you.”
“It is hard to even begin to describe what these last few years making this album has felt like. The collision of fear and pressure and joy and luck and total love has left me wordless. I spent many months walking forward in complete darkness, hands out in front of me, desperate to touch something familiar that would show me I was near the light switch again. I was never really alone,” Noah explained in a statement of the new album.
“I don’t think any of us ever truly are. I was guided through the wilderness by calm voices, by the stillness of my home state, by the total commitment of my band, producers, and team, by the steady and loving touch of my wife and family, and of course, by the constant and enduring encouragement of my fans. I am very proud of what we are doing together, and I hope we can live this dream for a long long time,” he continued.
