The death of the community dog Orelha has been moving Brazil. The dog, which was around 10 years old, was attacked by a group of teenagers on January 4th at Praia Brava, in Santa Catarina.
Orelha was rescued and taken to a veterinary clinic where he had to be euthanized on the 5th, due to the severity of the injuries.
The report on the dog’s death indicated that he suffered a “blunt head injury”, possibly caused by a stick, bottle or other object.
Due to the great repercussion, the Santa Catarina Civil Police began investigating the case. They identified at least four teenagers suspected of having assaulted him.
On January 26, an operation was launched to execute search and seizure warrants against the teenagers and adults responsible, but so far, no one has been arrested.
Until then, adolescents are subject to socio-educational measures, ranging from warning and provision of services to hospitalization for a maximum of three years.
This week, the court ruled that social networks exclude content that identifies teenagers suspected of attacking dog Orelha.
The removal of this content complies with the protection of adolescents in the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). Four are suspected of attacking a dog, which was later euthanized in Florianópolis.
