Iranian authorities indicated this Saturday (10) that they may intensify the repression of anti-government demonstrations, with the use of the Revolutionary Guard and classifying the disturbances as terrorist in origin.
The move comes one day after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, issued a new warning that he could intervene in the situation. Also on Friday (9), the population’s access to the internet and telephone lines was blocked.
At least 60 people have died and more than 2,300 have been arrested in recent years. The demonstrations began in response to rising inflation and quickly turned political, calling for an end to the theocratic regime that has ruled Iran since 1979.
