Khamenei, chosen by a council of clerics as the new supreme leader, has not made public appearances since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28 and killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled the country. According to the New York Times, Khamenei Jr. is in hiding and access to him is extremely limited as commanders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard fear he could be tracked and killed by the US. Khamenei is currently surrounded mainly by a team of doctors treating injuries sustained in the airstrikes.
