Trump praises operation in Venezuela and cites irritation with Maduro

by Syndicated News

US President Donald Trump spoke to Republicans in the House of Representatives this Tuesday (6), on which occasion he once again praised the successful operation by American forces to capture dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Amid the statements, the White House leader admitted that he was irritated by some of Maduro’s reactions, such as the dances he did during political events in Caracas, while the US threatened to attack Venezuela weeks before the military action.

“He gets up there and tries to imitate my dance a little”, he said at the party meeting, jokingly.

Trump declared that no other country is a “match” for the US and called the operation “brilliant” before talking about other issues.

“The USA has proven, once again, to be the most powerful, the most sophisticated and fearless on the entire planet. No one is a match for us. No one could have done this, we are very fast, no one has these weapons”, emphasized the American president.

The Republican also criticized members of the Democratic Party who disagreed with the action to capture Maduro. “Few people congratulated me. […] At some point, they should say, you know, ‘You did a great job.”

Although this was the first official speech since the attack in Venezuela, Trump announced the day before that he is not at war with the South American country.

Maduro was captured with his wife, Cilia Flores, last Saturday (3) and this Monday the two faced their first hearing in a federal court in New York, where they declared innocent of all charges.

Trump again criticizes investigation into attack on the Capitol and evaluates midterm elections

In his sweeping speech, Trump again criticized lawmakers who investigated him for allegedly inciting the mob that tried to stop the certification of former President Joe Biden’s 2021 election victory, insisting he had merely called for a “peaceful” march to Congress.

“Did you know that the press never reported my words: ‘Walk or march peacefully and patriotically to the Capitol’… They never reported it, it’s a scandal. The (Congress) select committee never reported it,” he said before members of his party in the Chamber on the five-year anniversary of the episode.

Shortly after the attack, the House of Representatives, controlled by Democrats at the time, created a special commission to investigate the role of the Republican president and his inner circle in the alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Trump categorically denied any connection with the episode.

Upon returning to the White House in January last year, Trump granted pardons to around 1,500 protesters, including those convicted of “sedition” for violent acts against police officers and other defendants.

The White House leader also mentioned the midterm elections during the Kennedy Center meeting, suggesting that the Republican Party would likely lose seats in the midterm elections. “They say that when you win the presidency, you lose the midterm elections,” he declared.
