On Tuesday, a joint statement from France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and Denmark stated that “Greenland belongs to its people” and only Denmark and Greenland can decide on the future of the territory. The text also said that security in the Arctic must be guaranteed collectively, within the scope of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), of which the USA and Denmark are part.
