Opponent Maria Corina celebrates US attack on Venezuela

by Syndicated News

Considered as a possible successor to dictator Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado released this Saturday (3) a position in which she states that “the time for freedom has come” in Venezuela. She defended the “immediate” start of a “democratic transition in the country”. His statement comes after a US military attack.

In the text, she maintains that Maduro must face “international justice” for his crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of other nations. Maduro was taken by the US and is on a ship bound for the US with his wife, Cilia Flores, where he will be tried on drug trafficking charges.

United States President Donald Trump announced in the early hours of the morning that US forces had carried out a large-scale attack against Venezuela and that dictator Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife, had been captured. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Maduro will face a “criminal trial” held in U.S. courts.

Empire “of law”

According to Maria Corina, given Maduro’s refusal to accept the negotiated exit, the United States would have fulfilled its promise to “enforce the law”. The opponent also stated that the moment marks the resumption of popular and national sovereignty, with the promise of restoring institutional order, releasing political prisoners and rebuilding the country.

In her position, the leader highlighted the contested result of the electoral process on July 28th and stated that Edmundo González Urrutia would be the “legitimate president of Venezuela”. She defended that he immediately assume the constitutional mandate and be recognized as commander in chief of the National Armed Force.

Maria Corina Machado also calls on the population to remain “vigilant, active and organized” until the consolidation of a democratic transition. Venezuelans living in the country are asked to pay attention to the guidelines that, according to her, will soon be released through official channels. As for those abroad, she requested mobilization with governments and the international community in support of Venezuela’s reconstruction process.

“This is the citizens’ time”, says the opponent, who ends the message by saying that the country “will be free” and that the fight will continue “until the end”.
