The Federal Police (PF) sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Monday (22), the report that analyzes the health of General Augusto Heleno, after the defense claimed that he has Alzheimer’s and asked for the sentence to be converted into house arrest.
The document was filed in the criminal execution process and is being processed under secrecy. Minister Alexandre de Moraes requested the expertise and is following the case.
Despite having given more time to complete the exam, Moraes received the report before the deadline, which was due on December 26th. Thus, the Federal Police anticipated sending the conclusions to the STF.
The Court requested the expert opinion after identifying discrepancies in the information presented by the defense. According to the lawsuit, the lawyers indicated different dates for the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s throughout the action.
Therefore, the Federal Police analyzed the medical documents attached to the files. Furthermore, the experts compared the data with previous records presented in the process.
The objective of the analysis was to clarify whether the alleged clinical condition compromises Augusto Heleno’s ability to serve a sentence in a common prison regime.
The general was convicted in the action that investigated the attempted coup d’état after the elections. The process also involves former president Jair Bolsonaro and other allies.
Based on the supposed diagnosis, the defense asked that Heleno serve his sentence under house arrest. The Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, spoke in favor of the request.
Now, Alexandre de Moraes will analyze the content of the Federal Police report. The decision will define whether the general’s health condition allows a change in the prison sentence regime.
