Ravi surpasses Miguel and takes the lead among male names in 2025

For the first time, Ravi leads the national ranking of male names registered in Brazil. In 2025, the name added 21,982 recordssurpassing Miguelwhich came in second place with 21.654according to a survey by Civil Registry Transparency Portaladministered by National Association of Registrars of Natural Persons (Arpen-Brazil).

The change at the top of the male ranking marks a turning point in the preferences of Brazilian families after years of predominance of traditional biblical names. Ravi’s rise reflects the consolidation of a trend already observed in recent years: the search for short, sonorous and easy to pronounce nameswith strong contemporary appeal and global connection.

Even surpassed, Miguel remains among the most popular names in the country, maintaining a significant volume of records. Following the ranking appear Hector (17,751 records), Arthur (17.514), Theo (16.766) e Gael (16.201), reinforcing the coexistence between classic names and more modern choices.

The survey is part of the Civil Registry Transparency Portal database, which brings together information on births registered in all registry offices in the country. The platform allows queries by simple or compound names, with regional, state and municipal sections, offering a broad overview of the choices of Brazilian families.

In addition to the male leadership, the 2025 general ranking also confirms the strength of female names, with Helena maintaining first place nationally for the second consecutive year, with 28,271 recordsconsolidating itself as the most chosen name in the country.
