There could be fresh Nürburgring lap record shenanigans afoot. Southern California-based hypercar maker Czinger was recently spied turning fast laps at Germany’s legendary Green Hell—with rumors that the company could be gunning for Ford’s record.

YouTube Spy videographer CarSpyMedia captured the sights and sounds of a devious 21C. The yellow monster boasts a twin-turbocharged 2.88-liter V8 engine good for 1,250 horsepower. And there’s more than enough aero at play to keep this thing properly planted.

Based on the video, it sure seems like Czinger is prepping for a shot at a new Nürburgring track record.

Czinger’s Record Breaker

Czinger is no stranger to breaking track records. Over the last few years, a 21C has captured top times at the likes of COTA, Laguna Seca, and even the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Some of those records have since been broken, but there’s no question that the car is incredibly capable.

Still, the current ‘Ring record sits at an incredibly quick time of 6:29.090. That was set by driver Maro Engel in a Mercedes-AMG One. Ford recently completed a lightning-quick time of 6:40.835 with its Mustang GTD Competition, the fastest of any car to date.

Could Czinger have its sights set on an even more ambitious record, however? Ford made headlines earlier in the year when it captured the fastest combustion-engine-only record with a Ford GT MkIV. That time is just 6:15.977, which sits third overall for fastest time ever.

Motor1’s Take: The Czinger 21C is a radical hypercar with a truly wild power-to-weight ratio and a serious aero kit. There’s no denying that, with the right hot shoe at the helm, the car should be capable of a fantastic lap time. Just how fantastic, though, remains to be seen. And we can’t wait to see it.
