Watch the action in the video above. ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp The US Southern Command (Southcom), responsible for US military operations in Latin America, stated on social media that the affected vessel was sailing along known drug trafficking routes and taking part in operations linked to drug trafficking. The American government claims to be at war against what it calls “narco-terrorists” in the region. To date, however, it has not presented public evidence linking the attacked vessels to drug trafficking. According to the military, the campaign has already left 170 people dead. The operations, however, have provoked debate about the legality of the actions. Experts in international law and human rights organizations say the attacks could amount to extrajudicial executions, as they target people who would not pose an immediate threat to the United States.
