The other man involved is on the run. Dozens of people have already been detained in the country under the new law, which came into force last month, after being approved by parliament and sanctioned by the president, Bassirou Faye. The law provides for penalties of five to ten years in prison and fines of up to R$90,100. Same-sex relationships are considered deviant by many in Senegal. In the predominantly Muslim African country, the defense of LGBTQIA+ rights is seen as a Western import incompatible with local values. Since the law came into force, 63 people have been detained by the police unit tasked with ensuring it is enforced. VIDEOS: most watched on g1
