Matthew Lillard is responding to a fan who gave him an emotional shoutout on Threads.
On Monday (April 27), a user going by the name Alex Mersman posted a story about the time he met Matthew a few years ago at a convention.
“My apartment burned down in NYC. I went crazy depressed, and sank deeper into hard drugs. I sent myself to rehab. Before leaving, I got to meet you at Seattle’s ComicCon,” he started his post.

Alex continued, “I was really unwell, emotionally, physically, mentally.”
He said he told the Scream star “what was up” and Matthew put everything down and stood up to hug him.
“You told me to give you a real bear hug. For minutes, it seemed. You said ‘You got this. One day at a time. I believe in you.’ I cried cried,” the fan said.
Then he shared that he is now celebrating 18 months of sobriety and expressed his gratitude toward Matthew for helping him achieve it.
“Thank you for being you. Your words & actions moved me & stayed with me. Just want to thank you for your heart. Who you are. You are a real one. We all see it. That’s why you had the longest line at ComicCon by a mile,” he concluded.
Matthew responded to Alex, writing, “Thank you for shouting me out but you’re the hero here. Stay strong. One day at a time. Proud.”
