It is #FAKE that photos show the mayor of New York alongside Jeffrey Epstein; images were created with AI Reproduction Photos are circulating on social media allegedly showing Zohran Mamdani, mayor of New York, and Mira Nair, filmmaker and his mother, alongside Jeffrey Epstein (1953-2019), billionaire known for his connection with a vast network of sex and minor trafficking in the early 2000s. The three “photos” were published on X on Saturday (31), one day after the United States Department of Justice released more than 3 million pages of Epstein’s case files. However, they were created with Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) (read more below). One of the posts, which brings together the three manipulated images, has this caption (originally, in English): “🚨BOMB! Apparently, Zohran Mamdani was trained by the best of the best. Hmmm. Internet, DO WHAT YOU KNOW.” One of the false records shows Mira Nair holding a baby on her lap, supposedly Mamdani, on a beach with Epstein and Bill Clinton, the former American president mentioned in the recently revealed documents. Another shows Mira a child, again named as Mamdani, alongside Epstein, Clinton; Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft and also mentioned in the files); Jeff Bezos (CEO of Amazon); and Ghislaine Maxwell (Epstein’s ex and convicted of crimes related to sex trafficking of minors). The third has the same group on a beach, with the exception of Mira. In the content, the child identified in the posts as Mamdani is being hugged by Ghislaine, while Epstein holds Clinton on his lap. Mamdani’s mother was mentioned in an email from publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein, dated October 21, 2009. In the text, Mira is mentioned as one of the guests who participated in an event to promote a film, which would have taken place at Ghislane’s house. Mira’s name also appears in guest list emails for an independent film event. ⚠️ Why is this a lie? Fato ou Fake submitted the images to SynthID Detector, a Google platform that checks content generated with the company’s own AI tool. The result of the three analyzes indicated: “Made with Google AI – Synth ID identified in all or part of the uploaded content” (see below). This technology inserts a watermark to identify content generated with Google’s AI models. This “seal” is incorporated into synthetically manufactured videos, images, audios or texts. Although imperceptible to humans (who cannot verify the indicator just by watching the scenes or listening to the audio), the technique is detectable by the system. Fato ou Fake performed a reverse search for the images on Google Lens. This research serves to verify the origin of content on the internet. The result showed that the images were first published by an X parody account – the description mentions that the profile publishes memes and material manufactured with AI. SynthID detected the presence of Google’s AI watermark in the blue dots.
