The qualified majority of European Union (EU) countries signaled this Friday (9) their support, on a provisional basis, for the signing of the trade agreement with Mercosur. There were more than 25 years of negotiations.
The advancement of the trade treaty paves the way for the creation of the largest free trade zone in the world, made up of more than 720 million consumers. With the initial approval – despite the rejection of some members such as France and Poland – the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, may travel to Paraguay – the country that holds the rotating presidency of Mercosur – next week to officially sign the agreement.
