Venezuela confirms “negotiations” to sell oil to the US

State-owned Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) confirmed this Wednesday (7) that it is in the process of negotiating with the United States for the sale of volumes of crude oil. The confirmation comes hours after President Donald Trump announced that the US would receive 50 million barrels from Venezuela.

According to a statement released by PDVSA on its social networks, the process is being conducted “under commercial criteria, with legality, transparency and mutual benefit between the parties”.

According to the state-owned company’s text, the negotiations are similar to agreements in force with international companies such as Chevron, already active in the Venezuelan oil sector, and were described as “strictly commercial transactions”. PDVSA also stated its commitment to continue “building alliances” that boost national development and contribute to global energy stability.

This Tuesday (6), Trump stated that the new leadership in Caracas, under the command of Delcy Rodríguez, would be willing to deliver 30 to 50 million barrels of “high quality” oil to the United States, highlighting in a publication on the Truth Social platform that he himself would control the resources generated by the sale to guarantee “benefits for both Venezuelans and Americans”.

The White House, in turn, clarified that the agreement includes “sanctioned” oil that is “on board ships” held under an American blockade, adding that the Venezuelan government “agreed to release” these volumes. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said the pact addresses sanctioned oil that has become trapped due to U.S. economic pressure on Caracas.

US Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, also said that the government will control the sale of Venezuelan oil for an indefinite period of time and will allow it to be sold to both American refineries and other global markets, with the funds deposited in accounts managed by the United States.
