Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Service (GUR) has received an armed patrol vessel developed domestically and funded by the Diana Podolianchuk Foundation, according to an official announcement.

As reported by the website Defence Blogthe new vessel was handed over by the Diana Podolianchuk Foundation last Thursday (1st), with the note describing it as a New Year transfer to support maritime operations.

The vessel is an internally developed project and is described as the first of its kind produced in Ukraine. Currently, there are few comparable platforms available on the global market. According to the intelligence service, it is expected that the vessel will be used in operations throughout the Black Sea area.

“I thank everyone who participated in the implementation of this project. Thanks to these vessels, we can safely carry out special operations on the water and fight for our Black Sea”, said Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanovhead of Ukraine’s military intelligence, in a statement accompanying the handover.

The vessel is intended to provide fire support and direct support to maritime operations conducted by the Ukrainian military intelligence units. Among the highlights is the modular weapon configuration that allows heavy machine guns and grenade launchers to be installed, which can be interchanged depending on mission requirements.

The hull and cabin of the vessel have fragmentation and bulletproof protection, while each firing position is equipped with its own armored shield. The platform is also equipped with modern navigation equipment, communication systems and command and control tools, enabling effective use in a wide range of operational conditions.

The vessel is 10 meters long and can carry up to two tonnes of payload, making it one of the largest vessels currently in the inventory of Ukraine’s military intelligence. Its dimensions and cargo capacity make it possible to transport personnel, weapons and mission equipment, while maintaining high maneuverability.
