A gang made up of four men invaded, on Wednesday night (31), Cidade Universitária, in the West Zone of the capital of São Paulo.
The group’s target was the Institute of Energy and Environment (IEE) at the University of São Paulo (USP), where metallic materials used in scientific research were removed.
Details of the incident indicate that the suspects used a white van to access the campus. Armed, they captured two guards who were guarding the institute.
According to statements collected by the authorities, the criminals demonstrated prior knowledge of the location’s routine and infrastructure, including having the numeric password necessary to open the warehouse where the materials were stored.
According to the institute’s deputy director, Ildo Sauer, two HD computers and software developed at the IEE for operating the laboratory with information and records were taken, 8 coils of copper wire and 80 meters of plastic cables, the guards’ cell phones, in addition to destroying equipment and facilities to extract the copper.
The police try, using security images, to identify the criminals.
