Maduro guarantees Venezuela’s “territorial integrity”

When asked about an alleged US ground attack, in a special interview broadcast on the state channel VTV this Thursday (1st), the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, stated that his country’s defensive system “guaranteed and guarantees the territorial integrity” of Venezuela.

“The national defensive system, which combines popular, military and police force, guaranteed and guarantees the territorial integrity, peace of the country and the use and enjoyment of all our territories, and our people are safe and at peace”, he commented, without denying or confirming the attack that would have been carried out by the CIA on Christmas Eve on a port area linked to drug trafficking in Venezuela.

In the interview, Maduro also said that he had “just one conversation” with American President Donald Trump, in an attempt to clarify “speculation” following a statement made by the Republican on Monday about a “very recent” phone call.

“I’ve been seeing speculation about a second conversation. We only had one conversation. He called me on Friday, November 21, from the White House. And I was at the Miraflores Palace,” Maduro said, adding that the conversation was “very respectful” and lasted “10 minutes.”

“The first thing he said to me was: ‘Mr. President Maduro’. And I told him: ‘Mr. President, Donald Trump,'” said Maduro, who was driving his car while giving his traditional January 1 interview.

The Venezuelan dictator also said that the conversation with Trump was “pleasant”, but that the subsequent “evolutions” were “not pleasant”.

Last Monday, Trump stated that he spoke “very recently” with Maduro, but that the conversation was not fruitful in reducing Washington’s pressure against Venezuela, in the context of a campaign to combat drug trafficking, for which he blames the South American country.

“I spoke to him. Very recently. But not much came of it,” Trump told the press when asked about the matter.
