Summer officially began at 12:03 pm this Sunday (21), bringing with it a forecast that puts São Paulo residents on alert: the next few days will be marked by intense heat and dry weather. According to Climatempo, the capital of São Paulo has a real chance of breaking the year’s temperature record on Christmas Eve, December 24th.
According to meteorologist Josélia Pegorim, from Climatempo, the effect will be felt throughout the Southeast. “The expectation is for temperatures above normal in many areas, especially in the last week of 2025”, he states. Although cities like Rio de Janeiro (which can reach 38°C) and Belo Horizonte face extreme heat, only São Paulo is on track to break an annual record.
National overview
The scenario of hot and dry days is not restricted to São Paulo. The “blockade summer” should spread the heat across the country:
South and Interior of the Northeast: Maximums close to 35°C.
Northern Region: Temperatures around 32°C.
Southeast: Rio de Janeiro can record the highest marks in the region, reaching 38°C.
La Niña and seasonal cliffs
Despite the predominance of sunshine, Climatempo makes an important caveat: the risk of isolated, but intense, storms remains. The phenomenon The Girl (cooling of Pacific waters) should have a moderate influence this season, affecting temperatures less and focusing more on the distribution of rainfall in the North and Northeast.
ASAS will also influence the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS)the humidity corridor that connects the Amazon to the Southeast, defining where rain will be most frequent throughout the season, which ends on March 21, 2026.
