Federal Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized General Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira to carry out internal work and read literary works to reduce the sentence. The soldier was sentenced to 19 years in prison under an initial closed regime in the criminal case for the coup attempt.
“With regard to the request for authorization to carry out internal work and reading literary works, as provided in article 126 of the Penal Execution Law, a convict serving a sentence in a closed or semi-open regime may redeem, through work or study, part of the time spent serving the sentence”, says the decision.
The general’s defense also asked for authorization so that he could enroll in higher-level or professional courses, but, in this case, Moraes informed that it was necessary to supplement the information and indicate to the Supreme Court, within 5 days, which course he intended to take, under penalty of the request being denied.
Moraes also authorized the general to receive a series of visits in person and via videoconference. The decision is dated December 30th and was announced this Wednesday (31st).
