New Nissan Xterra Price Starts Under $40,000

by Syndicated News

  • Nissan confirmed the new Xterra will start at under $40,000.
  • Nissan Americas chairman Christian Meunier said the Xterra will have ‘everything you need and nothing you don’t.’
  • The SUV is expected to debut sometime next year before going on sale for the 2028 model year.

Nissan is preparing a new Xterra, and people have been concerned about the price. New-car prices aren’t going down, but when the Xterra goes on sale, it won’t completely break the bank.

In an interview last week, Nissan Americas chairman Christian Meunier confirmed that the company would bring the Xterra “below $40,000.” The company had hinted at that price point before, with Nissan SVP Michael Soutter saying last November that the SUV “has got to start” below that.

According to EdmundsMeunier said that the Xterra will have “everything you need and nothing you don’t,” admitting that the company had “lost our way a little bit” by adding a lot of new technologies and features “for the sake of it.”

“We’re going to stop doing it,” he added. “Xterra is gonna be the symbol of this.”

What We Know About The New Xterra

Despite Nissan’s eagerness to talk about its new SUV, it is not expected to go on sale until the 2028 model year. The company released a single teaser image last week, showing off a chiseled hood, thin accent lighting above the grille, and bold “NISSAN” branding.

The Xterra will differentiate itself from its competitors via its powertrains. Nissan said it will stick with a V6 engine in the Xterra, likely relying on the automaker’s 3.8-liter engine that makes 310 horsepower in the Frontier pickup. In addition to the ICE-only variant, Nissan will also offer a hybrid V6 option.

The body-on-frame SUV will compete against off-road offerings like the four-door Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco, and Toyota 4Runner. All three have starting prices around $40,000.

Motor1’s Take: The sub-$40,000 starting price is huge for the Xterra. We just don’t know how far below that mark it will actually be, but with its V6 engine, body-on-frame design, and limited technology, it could be quite the value consumers are looking for right now.
