2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS Revealed: Bigger Battery, 800V Platform

by Syndicated News

  • Mercedes-Benz has updated the electric EQS sedan for 2027.
  • The upgrades include a new electric architecture, a bigger battery, and new electric motors.
  • The EV goes on sale in the United States in the second half of 2026.

Mercedes-Benz has updated the electric EQS sedan for 2027. The car has a larger battery, a revamped front-end design, and an electric architecture with 800-volt technology, up from 400 volts.

According to the automaker, more than 25 percent of the vehicle’s components are newly developed, updated, or refined. That includes the battery, which increases from 118 kilowatt hours to 122 kWh, a new two-speed rear-axle transmission, and new, in-house-developed electric motors.

Mercedes claims the entry-level EQS 450+ can travel up to 575 miles on a charge, but that number is based on Europe’s forgiving WLTP cycle. American consumers should expect the model to have around 400 miles of range when it reaches dealers—the current 450+ is rated to have 390 miles.

Visual Upgrades

The 2027 EQS features a new front-end design, a powerdome hood, and refined lighting elements.
The standard car features a black grille with a backlit star pattern and wide chrome slats. The optional AMG Line comes with a unique backlit star grille without the chrome and an illuminated central Mercedes star.

Inside, the automaker’s massive MBUX Hyperscreen is still standard. The EV is available with steer-by-wire, which features a yoke-style steering wheel and heated seatbelts.

Price And Availability

We expect Mercedes to release official pricing and performance numbers closer to the sedan’s on-sale date. It will begin reaching dealers in the United States starting in the second half of 2026.

The 2027 EQS line will feature the EQS 450+, EQS 500 4Matic (likely replacing the 450+ 4Matic), and the EQS 580 4Matic.

The 2026 EQS 450+ starts at $101,250 (all prices include the $1,350 destination charge). The range-topping EQS 580 4Matic has a starting price of $125,250, and we expect the entire 2027 EQS range to cost more.

Motor1’s Take: The EQS debuted as a pioneer of Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicle technology and went on sale for the 2022 model year. The updated model includes many modern EV features, like 800-volt architecture, and a bigger battery will help increase the available range.
