Tu – 95 Japan Self-Defense Forces/Disclosure via REUTERS The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) stated this Thursday (19) that it detected and monitored several Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), a monitoring area that precedes the sovereign airspace of the United States. 📱Download the g1 app to see news in real time and for free According to the statement, two Tu-95 strategic bombers, two Su-35 fighters and an A-50 aerial early warning aircraft were identified. The aircraft operated off Alaska, within the ADIZ, but remained in international airspace. In response, NORAD mobilized two F-16 fighters, two F-35s, an E-3 surveillance aircraft and four KC-135 tankers. The mission was to intercept, positively identify and escort Russian planes. According to the joint command of the United States and Canada, the Russian aircraft did not enter the sovereign airspace of either country. The planes were monitored until they left the Alaska air defense identification zone. NORAD reinforced that operations of this type are routinely monitored and are part of regular surveillance and air defense activities in the region.
