The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, met this Tuesday (3) at the White House, in Washington. After the meeting, Petro published images of gifts received from the American leader on his social networks.
In one of the posts, Petro published a photo of a painting apparently handed over by Trump with a message written by the American president himself: “Gustavo: a great honor. I love Colombia.” The photo was accompanied by Trump’s signature.
In another post, Petro published a photo walking alongside Trump in the so-called “presidential corridor” of the White House, a space that brings together portraits of former United States presidents. In the caption, the Colombian leader wrote: “We walk through the corridor of United States presidents; in the Casa de Nariño (Colombia’s presidential headquarters) there is one. We walk through history, but there is always a wall at the end: what comes next?…”.
The Colombian president also released images of the meeting in the Oval Office and another gift received: a copy of the book “Trump: The Art of the Negotiation”written by Trump, autographed with the phrase “you are incredible”.
According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, President Trump already hoped to have a positive meeting with Petro. The spokesperson stated that the invitation to the meeting in the United States came from the American president himself and that more details of the conversation would be released later on social media.
According to the agency EFEthe meeting took place behind closed doors, lasted more than two hours and marked the first face-to-face meeting between Trump and Petro after months of diplomatic tensions between Washington and Bogotá.
