Portrait of Hind Rajab was placed on a beach in Barcelona, on January 29, 2026 REUTERS/Nacho Doce Protesters placed a giant portrait of the 5-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab on a beach in Barcelona, Spain, this Thursday (29). Hind’s mother called on the international community to focus its attention on the plight of children in the Gaza Strip. ✅ Follow the g1 international news channel on WhatsApp The girl’s last calls for help, made while she was trapped in a car under Israeli fire, are reconstructed in the film “The Voice of Hind Rajab”. The production won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year and is nominated for an Oscar. In January 2024, Hind was trapped in her vehicle for hours during Israel’s offensive, launched after the Hamas terrorist attack in October 2023. On the phone, she pleaded with Palestinian doctors to send help. In the car, the aunt, uncle and three cousins were already dead. When an ambulance arrived at the scene, contact with the girl and rescuers was interrupted. Twelve days later, the bodies of Hind, her relatives and two paramedics were found in the area. The protest also displayed the message “Free the children of Gaza”. “The children of Gaza are not asking for mercy. They are asking for the right to live, to sleep without fear, to play without bombs and to grow up,” said Hind’s mother, Wesam Hamada, 29, during the event. “Hind Rajab’s voice didn’t stay in the car. It crossed borders,” said Jordanian-Canadian actress Saja Kilani, who plays a Palestinian Red Crescent rescuer in the film and participated in the protest. Asked this week about the deaths of Hind and her relatives, the Israeli Army reported that the case remains under investigation and made no further comments. Israeli forces say they do not deliberately attack civilians and accuse Hamas of using the population as a human shield. The UN stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains “serious”, three months after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, signed after two years of war. According to the organization, children are among those most affected by the lack of shelter, food and basic services, including health care. MORE
