This Monday (26), the STF minister, Gilmar Mendes, defended the performance of his colleague and Court rapporteur of the inquiry into financial fraud in the Banco Master case, Dias Toffoli. The defense was made through a publication on the social network “X”.
In the post, the dean of the STF stated that Toffoli is “committed to the Constitution” and that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) has already recognized the regularity of the minister’s stay in the Master case.
“His performance complies with the parameters of due legal process and was subject to review by the Attorney General’s Office, which recognized the regularity of his presence in the case,” he added.
In the publication, Gilmar Mendes also stated that the independence of the Judiciary and respect for its bodies are “indispensable conditions” for the population’s “trust” in institutions.
In recent days, it was revealed that funds linked to the bank purchased the stake of the STF minister’s brothers in a resort in the city of Ribeirão Claro, in Paraná. This generated discomfort in political and legal circles, as it was treated as an unusual fact. Toffoli had already been criticized due to some measures adopted in the case, such as the PF’s restriction on cell phones seized in police operations and the order for a confrontation between technicians from the Central Bank, which decreed the liquidation of Master, and executives from Vorcaro’s bank.
