Widespread snow, sleet and freezing rain caused disruptions that affected nearly 180 million people — more than half the U.S. population. Meteorologists said that after passing through the South, the storm was expected to move toward the Northeast, dumping about 30 to 60 centimeters of snow from Washington to New York and Boston.
