The United States Army has significantly accelerated the schedule for the new MV-75 tiltrotor, the FLRAA program’s next-generation assault aircraft.

Previously scheduled to enter service only between 2031 and 2032, the model can now carry out its first flights in 2026, reflecting the Army’s urgency in keeping up with rapid technological evolution and the demands of the modern battlefield.

According to the Army Chief of Staff, General Randy A. George, the intention is to put the MV-75 into operation as quickly as possible, with the participation of both active units and the National Guard and special forces. Although the most likely schedule points to testing between October and December 2026, the expectation is that the prototype will be delivered by the end of the year and evaluations will begin in 2027.

The 101st Airborne Division was chosen as the first unit to receive the aircraft, while the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment will also participate in the process. Soldiers and maintenance teams are already involved in early assessments to provide direct feedback, with the goal of reducing changes before final entry into service.

Accelerating the program involves risks and compromises, but the Army is banking on digital engineering, virtual prototyping and early production decisions to shorten the lag between development and operational use. Bell is already assembling the first six test aircraft, and the MV-75 is expected to represent an important leap in the air mobility and assault capabilities of American forces.
