The CIA, the United States intelligence agency, published this Thursday (15) a video on its page on the social network X with detailed instructions, in Chinese, on how citizens of China can contact the agency in a “secure and secret” way to provide information about the communist regime.
In the post, the CIA presents “the complete steps for safe contact” and states that the agency “wants to know the truth about China” and is looking for people who have “relevant information and can pass it on.”
According to the content released, the CIA advises potential informants to use public computers and cell phones, browsers considered safer, such as Tor, in addition to VPN connections and private browsing modes. The agency also recommends avoiding personal devices, clearing browsing histories and accessing specific channels on the official website, including agency addresses on the dark web.
In May last year, China condemned videos released by the CIA with the aim of recruiting Chinese informants, classifying the action as an “open political provocation”, according to statements by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, reproduced by the agency AFP.
At the time, Beijing accused the United States of trying to induce Chinese citizens to provide state secrets and promised to adopt “necessary measures” to combat what it classifies as foreign infiltration.
