Any conviction of Maduro in the US will be illegal

The Russian dictatorship, an ally of the deposed Venezuelan dictator, Nicolás Maduro, stated this Thursday (15) that any decision by the United States Court that condemns the Chavista will be “illegal”.

Last week, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, who were captured in Venezuela in a United States military operation on the 3rd, pleaded not guilty to the charges they face in American federal court at a hearing in a federal court in New York.

“In accordance with the universally recognized norms of international law, based on the principle of sovereign equality of States, Nicolás Maduro, as head of State, enjoys absolute immunity from the jurisdiction of the United States and any other State, with the exception of Venezuela, of course,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova at a press conference.

“Therefore, even leaving aside the issue of the illegal use of armed force, the very fact of his abduction and detention constitutes the most serious violation of the international legal obligations of the United States of America. Any judicial decisions will be equally illegal unless the American court reconnects with international law”, added the spokeswoman, according to information from the state agency Tass.

Maduro is accused in the United States of conspiracy to commit narcoterrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and explosive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and explosive devices.

Flores is accused of conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of machine guns and explosive devices and conspiracy to possess machine guns and explosive devices.
