The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this Thursday (1st) that his country’s entry into the European Union (EU) is treated as part of the security guarantees that the Ukrainian government has sought to put an end to the war. Joining the EU is a long-standing demand of Ukraine to guarantee its sovereignty and deter Russian aggression.

In a message published on the social network

“Today, Cyprus begins its presidency of the Council of the European Union, and I congratulated the President on this. We are counting on firm decisions that will strengthen Ukraine and the whole of Europe in the next six months. It is important that Ukraine is among the top priorities during the Cypriot presidency. Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is one of our security guarantees, and on our part we are always doing everything necessary”, published the Ukrainian.

In a statement on Wednesday (31), Zelensky had said that the peace agreement for Ukraine is “90% ready”, after a long series of discussions with North American and European partners. The Ukrainian also ruled out any possibility of surrender and refused to accept a peace agreement considered “weak”.

“Signing weak agreements only fuels war. My signature will be on a strong agreement. And that’s exactly what every meeting, every call, every decision is about now,” he declared.
