Etíope wins São Silvestre 2025 with exciting overtaking

With a sprint in the final minutes, Ethiopian Muse Gisachew overtook Kenyan Jonathan Kipkoech Kamosong and won today (31) the 100th edition of the São Silvestre International Race.

Kamosong had been leading the race comfortably, but was overtaken by Gisachew close to the finish line, on Avenida Paulista. Kamosong finished the race with a time of 44 minutes and 32 seconds, just four seconds more than the race winner, who had a time of 44 minutes and 28 seconds.

Brazilian Fábio de Jesus Correia was third place, with a time of 45 minutes and 06 seconds.

In fourth place came Kenyan William Kibor, with a time of 45 minutes and 28 seconds. Fellow Kenyan Reuben Logonsiwa Poguisho closed the podium, in fifth place, with 45 minutes and 46 seconds.

The last time Brazil won São Silvestre in the men’s competition was in 2010, with Marilson Gomes dos Santos’ victory.
