The President of the United States, Donald Trump, sent another message to the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, during an event this Monday (22) in which he announced the construction of two new warships that will bear his name.
“If he [Maduro] If he wants to do something, if he plays hard, it will be the last time he can play hard”, threatened Trump, who, in the midst of the US military operation against drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific, had said this month that the Venezuelan dictator’s “days are numbered”.
Trump announced the construction of the two warships in a ceremony at his private residence at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, where he will spend the holidays. The event was attended by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The American president said that the new vessels will be part of the so-called “golden fleet”, which, according to him, will be made up of vessels “one hundred times more powerful” than the existing ones.
The ships described by the president as “battleships” will be the first of the future “Trump class” and will begin to be built “immediately”, according to the Republican president, who projected that the fleet will have more than 20 vessels.
The construction of the ships will be in Florida and will be carried out by contractors who will meet with the president next week. According to CNN, Trump said the new warships will have “state-of-the-art weapons and missiles,” hypersonic weapons, electromagnetic cannons, cruise missiles and the “most sophisticated lasers in the world” and will be “the largest ever built.”
Trump reiterated the importance of building these battleships “quickly” and criticized current companies dedicated to building vessels for the US Navy, because, according to him, “they are not doing a good job”.
“The US Navy will coordinate the design of these ships with me, because I am a person very interested in aesthetics,” said Trump this Monday, who this year had already criticized the “aesthetics” of American warships at an event with military personnel.
The new presidential order seeks to prioritize one of the Trump administration’s major goals of revitalizing the American naval industry and expanding the capacity to build military ships, amid concerns about the lag behind countries like China and the limitations of national shipyards.
